A reliable worker follows safety procedures and supports transportation of equipment to job sites. The position requires a high school diploma or GED and at least one year in engine repair or related fields, plus a basic tool set and safety knowledge.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and at least one year of experience in engine repair, maintenance, or a related field.
• Must have a basic set of tools. A $1,200 annual allowance for upgrades.
• Working knowledge of safety procedures for heavy equipment and machinery.
• Ability to follow instructions and perform wiring repairs as needed.
• Experience operating forklifts/bobcats and performing welding/soldering under safety guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Assists Mechanics with the repair and maintenance of county-owned vehicles and equipment.
• Assists Mechanics with service calls for disabled vehicles and equipment.
• Records and documents all vehicle and equipment repairs.
• Transports equipment and vehicles to and from job sites.
• Picks up parts as directed by the Supervisor or Parts Manager.
• Distributes mail daily between Highway Department locations.
• Washes and maintains equipment.
• Performs shop maintenance and keeps the work area clean and organized.
• Performs other duties as assigned, including overtime as required.
