Job summary

Akron Public Schools is seeking an Equipment Mechanic Helper for the Transportation Department. This role supports skilled and semi-skilled repairs on a range of automotive and construction equipment used by the district, including welding and preventive maintenance.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of repair experience, plus a valid Ohio driver's license and eventual acquisition of a Class A Commercial License with Air Brake and related endorsements

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least 1 year experience at the skilled/semi-skilled level in equipment repair.
  • Valid State of Ohio Driver's License with less than 6 points.
  • Must obtain Class A Commercial License with Air Brake, Passenger Endorsement and Manual Transmission within 6 months of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled and semi-skilled repair and preventive maintenance on automotive and construction equipment.
  • Assist in diagnosing and repairing engines, transmissions, brakes and steering systems.
  • Assist in shielded arc welding and oxyacetylene welding and cutting.
  • Install clutch plates and perform service calls for equipment in the field.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and promote safety practices.
