Job summary

Young Supply Company is hiring a Fleet Mechanic Helper in Clinton Township, MI. This full-time, entry-level role supports our fleet mechanics with inspection, maintenance, and repairs on vehicles, trailers, forklifts, and equipment.

You will work alongside experienced mechanics, perform oil changes and routine maintenance, assist with component removal and installation, and help keep parts and tools organized while adhering to safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude or hands-on experience with vehicles, engines, equipment, machinery or mechanical systems.
• Basic familiarity with hand and power tools.
• Ability to follow repair instructions and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist mechanics with preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting and repairs on company vehicles, trucks, trailers, forklifts and equipment.
• Perform or assist with oil and filter changes, lubrication, fluid checks, batteries, lights, tires and other routine maintenance.
• Assist with removal, installation and replacement of vehicle and equipment components.
• Retrieve and stage tools, parts and supplies needed for repairs.
• Maintain parts, tool and equipment inventories and help track work orders.
• Move vehicles and equipment into and out of the shop and transport vehicles as needed.
• Learn proper maintenance procedures, use of shop equipment and basic diagnostic/troubleshooting techniques.

Duties & Primary Responsibilities:The Fleet Mechanic Helper is an entry-level, hands-on position supporting our fleet mechanics in the inspection, preventive maintenance and repair of company vehicles and equipment. The employee will work alongside experienced mechanics on light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles, trailers, forklifts and other company equipment.

• Assist mechanics with preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting and repairs on company vehicles, trucks, trailers, forklifts and equipment.
• Perform or assist with oil and filter changes, lubrication, fluid checks, batteries, lights, tires and other routine maintenance appropriate to experience and training.
• Assist with removal, installation and replacement of vehicle and equipment components.
• Retrieve and stage tools, parts and supplies needed for repairs.
• Maintain parts, tool and equipment inventories and help track work orders.
• Move vehicles and equipment into and out of the shop and transport vehicles as needed.
• Clean parts, tools, equipment and work areas and maintain an organized, safe shop.
• Learn proper maintenance procedures, use of shop equipment and basic diagnostic/troubleshooting techniques.
• Follow company safety procedures and properly use required PPE.

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED
• Valid state-issued Driver License and acceptable driving record
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude or hands-on experience working with vehicles, engines, equipment, machinery or mechanical systems
• Basic familiarity with hand and power tools
• Ability to follow repair instructions and safety procedures
• Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds and perform work involving standing, bending, kneeling and reaching
• Dependable attendance
• Willingness to learn

Preferred:

• Basic preventative-maintenance experience
• Familiarity with electrical, hydraulic or mechanical systems
