Job summary

Hoover is seeking a Fleet Technician to diagnose, repair and maintain a range of city vehicles and heavy equipment. The role includes diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, and scheduled maintenance.

A clean driving record, City permit, and Alabama Class A CDL are required, with overtime and on-call duties as needed. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of field experience or 2 years of technical school plus 3+ years, plus a HS diploma or GED.

Qualifications

• 5+ years diagnosing, repairing and maintaining heavy equipment, automobiles and trucks.
• Or 2 years of automotive school plus 3+ years of experience.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment, including diesel and gasoline engines.
• Valid Driver's License and ability to obtain Hoover City Driver's Permit.
• Ability to obtain Alabama Class A CDL.
• Ability to work overtime and be on call.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance on City of Hoover vehicles including oil changes and scheduled maintenance for heavy equipment, diesel and gas engines, and automobiles.
• Repair vehicles such as rescue units, police sedans, fire trucks, heavy equipment and small equipment.
• Repair hydraulic systems including checking line pressure and flow and restrictions.
• Repair diesel and gasoline engines including diagnosing engine problems.
• Perform administrative duties such as keeping records and purchasing parts.
• Change tires on city vehicles and equipment.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
