Job summary

City of Oakdale (MN) is seeking an experienced mechanic to repair, maintain, and overhaul automotive, truck, and heavy equipment at our newly opened Public Works facility. The role emphasizes preventative maintenance, documentation, and problem solving across 150+ assets in multiple departments.

The position requires extensive hands-on repair work, strong diagnostic skills, and the ability to collaborate with city staff.

Qualifications

• Minimum five (5) years of skilled mechanical repair, maintenance, and overhaul of light and heavy equipment.
• Associate's degree + one year or more of relevant mechanical repair experience.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license; CDL preferred within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and complete preventative maintenance and repairs on automobiles, trucks, tractors, sweepers, and other equipment.
• Diagnose and perform electrical repairs such as wiring, emergency lighting, AVL/GPS, and two-way radio equipment.
• Operate tire changer, wheel balancer, brake lathe, cutting torch, and welders.
• Diagnose complex vehicle and equipment problems and document repairs and costs.
• Provide after-hours response and maintain safe, organized work areas.
