Job summary

The City of Renton is seeking a dependable Vehicle & Equipment Mechanic 1 to support maintenance, repair, fueling, and safe operation of City vehicles and equipment. This hands-on role combines mechanical knowledge, problem-solving and teamwork, with opportunities to work on a variety of light and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.

Qualifications

• 2 years vocational automotive technical training or 2 years’ experience in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of heavy and light gasoline, diesel and battery-powered equipment and electrical systems.
• Valid Driver’s license.
• Successful passing of a required driving record check.
• Successful passing of a required background check and national fingerprint-based records check.

Responsibilities

• Maintain fuel and oil supplies; measure and record fuel levels; operate fuel pump controls.
• Service vehicles; dispense fuels; check and add oil.
• Inspect brakes; replace pads on cars, trucks and equipment.
• Perform routine maintenance and safety checks on City vehicles.
• Respond to emergency requests and perform on-site repairs.

Education
