Job summary

Merchants Distributors, Inc. (MDI) in North Carolina seeks a skilled Garage Operations Supervisor with heavy duty diesel experience to lead mechanics and optimize daily workflow.

You will coordinate tasks, manage work orders, and maintain safety and records while reporting to Fleet Manager. The role requires strong communication, multitasking, and a proactive approach. The shift is Sunday-Thursday 4:30pm-1:00am, with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years in vehicle/equipment maintenance or related field.
  • ASE certification preferred.
  • Diesel, internal combustion and material handling equipment knowledge.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Excellent communication and customer-service skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and fleet systems.
  • Team-oriented, detail-focused, and proactive problem-solver.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize and allocate tasks to mechanics to ensure timely workflow.
  • Coordinate daily garage operations; close out work orders accurately.
  • Serve as the point of contact for Dispatch, Central and MTH; provide updates.
  • Maintain KPI records for preventative maintenance and reporting.
  • Assist in ordering and managing parts and supplies inventory.
  • Monitor road call activities and remote site maintenance orders.
  • Ensure garage cleanliness, safety, and policy compliance.
  • Approve apprentice work and support Fleet Manager as needed.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure timely and efficient workflow by prioritizing/allocating tasks with mechanics and technicians.
  • Coordinate daily operations of the garage, managing and closing out work orders, ensuring proper completion.
  • Serve as the point of contact for Dispatch, Central and MTH, coordinating and providing updates on repair status and addressing inquiries.
  • Maintain accurate records of preventative maintenance KPIs and reporting
  • Assist in ordering and managing inventory of parts and supplies.
  • Monitor and oversee road call activities.
  • Coordinate and manage preventative maintenance orders for remote sites, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
  • Monitor and maintain the cleanliness and organization of the garage.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations and company policies.
  • Approve the work completed by Apprentice.
  • Support Fleet Manager and other staff with necessary tasks and perform repairs as needed.
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Three to five years work experience in vehicle/equipment maintenance, parts, and fuel management and/ortransportation or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • ASE certification preferred.
  • Technical knowledge and skills related to internal combustion, diesel, and electric powered vehicles andmaterial handling equipment.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Preferred proficiency using MS Office and fleet management systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Valid driver’s license.
