Job Description

The Metropolitan Water District is seeking an Operation & Maintenance Tech II (Fleet) with recent experience in automotive (light/medium) or heavy equipment maintenance.

Location: Lake Mathews, Riverside County, CA

Position Details:

  • This is a temporary position for up to 6 months.
  • Schedule: 4/10 Mon-Thurs (10 hrs daily / 4 days per week).

Pay: $33/hour to $37/hour

The selected candidate will apply their automotive mechanical/electrical skills to service, maintain, and repair various automotive light and medium vehicles. Responsibilities include maintenance and repair of heavy construction equipment, mobile stationary equipment, and systems. This includes gas, diesel, and hybrid vehicles such as cars, SUVs, pickups, trucks, graders, bulldozers, tractor-trailers, tankers, cranes, and other heavy equipment.

Training will be provided on the Maintenance Management System (MMS) database, essential for work order management, inventory control, fuel management, service records, and regulatory compliance. The role supports water and power reliability by maintaining, repairing, and improving fleet equipment and services, including during shutdowns.

Preferred qualifications include at least 5 years of experience and knowledge in MACS, with Road Truck BIT experience considered a plus.

Key Duties:
  • Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair automotive light/medium or heavy equipment, including pumps, compressors, generators, and miscellaneous equipment.
  • Perform maintenance and repair of heavy construction equipment, including gas, diesel, and hybrid vehicles such as cars, SUVs, pickups, trucks, graders, bulldozers, tractor-trailers, tankers, cranes, and other heavy machinery.
  • Maintain and repair the company fleet.
Job Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED, plus at least 2 years of recent experience in automotive or heavy equipment maintenance.
  • Class A license.
  • Mandatory pre-employment requirements include DMV Medical Exam, substance abuse drug test, and certification of violation history.
  • No Cal PERS membership.
  • No active Carpenters membership.
