Job summary

The Town of Pecos City is seeking a Mechanic Assistant to support the fleet team in maintaining its vehicles and equipment. You will help coordinate parts purchases with Fleet Management and assist with routine maintenance tasks to keep assets in safe operating condition.

You will work in a busy shop environment, performing repairs, keeping tools organized, and ensuring quality workmanship while collaborating with a skilled team and adhering to safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Mechanical background in repair and preventative maintenance on vehicles and large equipment.
• Knowledge of tools and equipment used in the automotive trade.
• ASE certifications or equivalent.
• Welding qualified preferred but not required.
• Must be able to use computer diagnosis system.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 2-year minimum experience.
• Must obtain Texas DL within 6 months of hire if not current/expired.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance repairs such as tune-ups, oil changes, check tires and brakes, replace spark plugs and engage in other similar tasks for all TOPC vehicle/assets.
• Assist mechanics with electrical systems such as replacing batteries, starters, and lights.
• Test drives vehicles to ensure repairs are completed properly.
• Clean the shop and return tools to proper location.
• Maintain inventory for all TOPC vehicle/assets.
• Inspect tools and equipment to ensure they are in working order.
• Thrive with a team and under pressure in challenging environments.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
