Job summary

The City of Clearwater is seeking a Fleet Mechanic to perform skilled mechanical work at the journeyman level in repair and reconditioning of city vehicles and equipment, including trucks, fire apparatus, generators, and related machinery.

Responsibilities

• Maintains, repairs, services, and reconditions various vehicles and equipment; performs this work on automobiles, Class 1-8 trucks, fire apparatus and equipment, stationary generators, portable generators, garbage trucks, off-road equipment, mowers, and similar apparatus.
• Inspects equipment and vehicles to ensure proper function and operation; tests repairs to ensure quality control.
• Utilizes diagnostic equipment and software; identifies and troubleshoots problems and concerns with vehicles and equipment.
• Overhauls transmissions, engines, clutches, universals, axle assemblies, etc. as recommended for repair by supervisors.
• Performs welding and fabrication.
• Makes service calls and field repairs.
• Services, repairs, and tests, fire pumps, priming devices, transfer cases, power assists, hydraulic systems, and other specialized fire equipment.
• Prepares records and writes narrative on work accomplished; ensures the appropriate documentation and delivery of work requests.

Under direct supervision, the Fleet Mechanic provides skilled mechanical work at the journeyman level in the repair and reconditioning of city vehicles and equipment including other types of specialized apparatus.

Qualifications

Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment: A valid State driver's license is required.
Type: Obtain and maintain a Class B CDL permit within six (6) months of hire date & obtain and maintain a Class B CDL within one (1) year of hire date.

Education and Experience: High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate and six (6) months of vocational training AND two (2) years of experience in the servicing, maintenance, and repair of varied automotive equipment.
