WM is seeking a Fleet Manager in Manassas, VA to oversee maintenance operations for a 45-truck fleet. You will lead a 9–10 person shop, drive profitability, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance.

You will manage budgets, coach technicians, and collaborate with operations leadership to improve equipment reliability and uptime, reporting to the maintenance leadership team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher, or a GED with 4 years of relevant experience.
• Minimum 5 years of fleet/maintenance leadership experience.
• Valid driver's license required.

Job Summary

The Fleet Manager is responsible for overseeing all fleet maintenance operations and managing the day‑to‑day activities of the shop to ensure safe, reliable, and cost‑effective vehicle performance. This full‑time position is based in Manassas, VA, with a 7:00 AM start time, Monday through Friday, and Saturday work as needed. The Fleet Manager leads a team of 9‑10 employees, including Technicians, Senior Technicians, Supervisors, and Operational Support staff, while maintaining a fleet of approximately 45 trucks.

This role is accountable for managing the full fleet of primary and secondary equipment and continuously driving profitability through effective oversight of all fleet and maintenance activities. Responsibilities include controlling maintenance costs, ensuring preventative maintenance compliance, maximizing fleet uptime, developing and coaching employees, and maintaining the highest standards of safety and regulatory compliance. The Fleet Manager partners closely with operations leadership to support business objectives, improve equipment reliability, and foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and operational excellence.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Ensures safe and reliable vehicles are available to meet operational requirements. Conducts fleet evaluations to ensure maintenance standards are met.
• Manages maintenance managers to ensure performance and cost focus across the area.
• Reviews capital equipment requisitions in line with Corporate guidelines and objectives.
• Manages effective utilization of vehicle assets.
• Ensures maintenance shops are adequately staffed and mechanics are properly trained.
• Ensures vehicle management systems are effectively utilized.
• Complies with and ensures adherence to WM’s Mission to Zero standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations.
• Meets all financial review dates and corporate directed programs in a timely fashion.
• Assists in budget process as required.
• Assists in creating a positive team-oriented environment through employee development and motivation.
• Ensures the cleanliness and maintenance of the maintenance shops through regular inspections and preventive maintenance programs.
• Oversees personnel needs of the department including selecting, coaching, and training staff and maintenance managers, and evaluating employee performance. Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
• Motivates, coaches, counsels and disciplines managers according to WM’s policies and procedures and ensures that maintenance managers are in compliance with the standards in their administration of counseling and disciplinary steps.
• Provides training and presentations as needed in a positive and professional manner.

Pay

The expected base pay range for this onsite position is $91,723 - 105,000. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
