Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent (all levels).
• Valid State of Michigan Driver's License.
• Entry Level: up to one year basic vehicle or equipment maintenance experience.
• Intermediate Level: 1 year gov't fleet experience or 3 years heavy-duty experience; basic welding; CDL-A; 4 Michigan certifications; own tools.
• Advanced Level: 3 years gov't fleet or 5 years heavy-truck experience; advanced welding; CDL-A; Master HD Truck Mechanic; own tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on light-, medium-, heavy-duty, and specialized equipment.
• Conduct safety inspections and operational checks.
• Diagnose and repair engines, transmissions, hydraulics, electrical, fuel systems.
• Perform welding, fabrication, and modifications.
• Respond to field service calls and emergencies, including weather events.
• Maintain work orders, time records, and parts inventory in software.
• Perform bodywork and basic collision estimates.
• Maintain tools and shop area in safe condition.
• Follow safety procedures and department policies.
• Provide training or direction to entry-level staff.
