Job summary

The Town of Apex is seeking a skilled Fleet Services Technician to keep the 800-vehicle fleet in prime condition at 105-A Upchurch Street, Apex, NC. You will perform preventive maintenance and repairs, diagnose issues, and document work orders to ensure reliable operation across Town services.

Ideal candidates have 1 year of related automotive or fleet experience, NC State Inspection certification or ability to obtain within 6 months, NC Class A CDL or ability to obtain within 12 months,

Qualifications

• Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
• One year of related automotive, fleet, or equipment maintenance experience.
• NC State Inspection License or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
• NC Class A CDL or ability to obtain within twelve months of hire.
• Forklift Certification or ability to obtain within twelve months of hire.
• Two ASE certifications; may be substituted with 20 hours of in-person manufacturer training.

Responsibilities

• Performs preventive maintenance and routine repair on light-, medium-, and selected heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
• Diagnoses and repairs mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic system issues using standard methods.
• Removes, repairs, and replaces components such as brakes, suspension parts, batteries, starters, and wiring.
• Repairs engines, exhaust, transmission, brakes, HVAC, and hydraulic systems within skill level.
• Test drives vehicles to diagnose concerns and verify repairs.
• Communicates with Fleet staff and customer departments regarding repair status.
