Job summary

First Student in Normal, IL is hiring a Shop Manager to oversee all location maintenance operations and supervise shop staff. You will coordinate maintenance schedules, manage budgets, and ensure safety standards are met for bus fleet serving the school district.

The role requires 5+ years of mechanical supervisory experience, a valid driver's license, and willingness to pursue ASE certification. The position offers full benefits and a full-time schedule, Monday through Friday.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Technical training preferred.
• Willingness to participate in ASE certification program (training, testing, and bonuses provided).
• Valid driver’s license; willingness to obtain CDL with company training.

Responsibilities

• Schedule and administer fleet maintenance and assist in troubleshooting problems with equipment.
• Directly supervise shop staff and manage performance reviews.
• Coordinate with Location Manager on maintenance status and budget variances.
• Ensure compliance with state, federal, and company requirements for safety.
• Review repair orders and manage parts, fuel, and subcontracted work.
• Lead projects to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• Ensure staff are trained, equipped, and motivated to perform maintenance safely.
• Supervise bus fueling and arrange building/grounds services.
• Complete special projects and perform hands-on maintenance as required.
