Job summary

North American Central School Bus is seeking a maintenance shop manager to oversee day-to-day operations, repairs, PMs and overhauls of buses and fleet vehicles. You will direct a team, schedule work, and ensure safety, quality and regulatory compliance.

The ideal candidate has at least five years in transportation maintenance, hands-on mechanical management experience, strong communication skills and the ability to work early shifts.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years in transportation, including repairing and maintaining diesel engines and school bus equipment.
• 5+ years of related mechanical experience or trade school with endorsements such as Preventative Maintenance or Brake Certifications.
• 3+ years of hands-on mechanical managerial experience preferred.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work early morning hours.
• Must maintain a professional attitude toward colleagues and customers.
• Dress professionally for a business environment.
• Follow OSHA and other regulations in all job functions.
• Must possess or be able to acquire CDL Class B with P endorsement within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Manages day-to-day shop staff and operation.
• Schedules and administers fleet maintenance; assists in troubleshooting equipment and reviews repair orders.
• Delegates responsibilities and monitors performance; takes corrective action as needed.
• Ensures day-to-day compliance with state, federal, and company requirements.
• Coordinates with Contract Manager and Regional Operations Manager on maintenance status and budget; reviews repairs and related documents.
• Orders fuel, parts, and subcontracted repair work; maintains vehicles and grounds as needed.
• Ensures technicians are trained and equipped for safe, timely, cost-effective work.
• Manages special projects as assigned.
• Communicates vehicle availability for service with dispatch and Contract Manager.
• Addresses disciplinary concerns and staff development; planning work and addressing performance.
