Job summary

The La Crosse County Highway Department is seeking a Fleet Support Technician to maintain our fleet of vehicles and heavy equipment, ensuring safe and dependable operation across daily operations.

You will manage parts inventories, assist mechanics, perform basic diagnostics, document service history in the fleet system, and coordinate with shop staff and field personnel to keep equipment ready for duty. A CDL is preferred and strong safety focus is required.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED.
• Two years of experience in vehicle or equipment maintenance.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL Class A preferred; ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Must pass pre-employment drug screening and maintain a good driving record.
• Must meet physical demands such as lifting 50 lbs and varied shifts.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate inventory of fleet parts, supplies, and consumables.
• Receive, inspect, and organize incoming parts; verify quantities and quality.
• Issue parts to mechanics and document usage in the fleet management system.
• Track stock levels and reorder when required.
• Assist mechanics with routine maintenance and repairs on vehicles and heavy equipment.
• Program mobile radios and related equipment used by fleet personnel.
• Communicate effectively with mechanics, supervisors, vendors, and field staff.
• Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized workspace.
