Job summary

City of Forest Park seeks a skilled maintenance mechanic for its fleet. You will perform preventive maintenance and general repairs on city equipment, maintain maintenance records, and assist in drafting bidding specs for new gear. Flexibility for night/weekend shifts and emergency calls is required.

Applicants should have a high school diploma and at least two years in motor vehicle repair. A valid Ohio CDL-A with motorcycle endorsement is required; ASE/EVT certifications are desirable.

Qualifications

• Two years paid/employed experience in motor vehicle repair.
• Must have a valid Commercial Driver’s License-Class A from Ohio with motorcycle endorsement.
• Ability to drive at night with no restrictions.
• Desirable: ASE and EVT certifications.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance on City-owned equipment such as oil changes and tune-ups.
• Carry out general automotive repair including brakes, engines, and parts replacement.
• Maintain records for the Preventive Vehicular Maintenance Program.
• Assist Fleet Manager in preparing bidding specifications for new equipment.
• May operate equipment or perform other work in Public Works as required.
• Work shifts, emergencies, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Job description

Performs preventive maintenance and general repair work on vehicles and equipment in the City's fleet; carries out work assignments as received from the Fleet Manager.

1. Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on all City-owned equipment such as oil changes, lubrication, motor tune-ups, diesel trucks and heavy equipment.
2. Performs general automotive repair work on all City-owned equipment as needed. This would include such things as installing or adjusting brakes, overhauling engines, carburetor repair, and replacing worn out or defective parts on motor vehicles and equipment.
3. Maintains record system on Preventive Vehicular Maintenance program.
4. Assists Fleet Manager in preparing bidding specifications for new equipment.
5. May operate equipment or perform other work in Public Works Department as required.
6. Must be willing to work shifts/emergencies other than normal business hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
7. Performs related work as required.

1. General knowledge of small engine repair, automotive repair, combustion and diesel engines,all of the various systems associated with automotive-equipment, including fuel carburetion, fuel pumps, fuel injection, brakes, steering, transmissions, suspension, electrical, cooling, lubrication, air conditioning systems, ABS brake systems, and hydraulics,including police cars, fire department apparatus and ability to perform scheduled preventive vehicular maintenance.

1. Ability to maintain a record system on the Preventative Vehicular Maintenance Program established and schedule maintenance as required.

1. Thorough knowledge of the State laws pertaining to the operation of motor vehicles and trailerson the highways.

1. Skill and care in the operation of motor vehicles.

1. Knowledge of safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards and safe work practices when working with and around automotive equipment and automotive repair equipment.

1. Ability to lift 75 lbs.

1. Ability to perform moderately heavy to heavy manual labor.

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

1. Two years paid/employed experience in motor vehicle repair work.

1. Must have a valid Commercial Driver’s License-Class A from the State of Ohio, including a motorcycle endorsement, and the ability to drive at night with no restrictions.

1. Must be able to be insured and remain insurable by the City’s insurance carrier if the position requires driving. It is desirable to possess a certification from the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) Certification.
