Job summary

City of Winston-Salem is seeking a Fleet Supervisor to direct, train, advise, and monitor service staff tasks ensuring maintenance and repair of city vehicles and equipment. The role emphasizes safety, accurate records, and high customer service while coordinating priorities during emergencies.

The position requires leadership, diagnostic skills, and experience in automotive/heavy equipment repair, with potential 12-hour shifts during snow events or emergencies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• ASE certification in four areas or to obtain within one year from hire.
• CDL or obtain within one year from hire.
• NC Safety and Emissions inspector's license or to obtain within one year from hire.
• Five years of verifiable automotive/heavy equipment repair experience.

Responsibilities

• Direct and coordinate the work of the team members to optimize efficiency of equipment maintenance and repair tasks and maintain a safe work environment.
• Coach and assist team with diagnosis and repair on a wide variety of vehicles and equipment for their shop.
• Ensure that vehicle and equipment work orders and records are updated and closed upon completion.
• Monitor and evaluate employee performance and apply corrective action if required.
• Complete administrative duties under the direction of the Fleet Services Manager.
• Arrange, authorize, and pay outside service and some shop expenses.
• Take the lead on communicating with departments, vendors, and operators regarding status of work, and to establish priorities.
