Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Lead Driver is responsible for the overall operations of our facility in Seneca KS, ensuring the timely movement of all products, maintaining the fleet condition, and managing the staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide oversight and follow-up on all daily work assignments for assigned driver staff and ensure that the necessary resources are available to accomplish excellent customer service in compliance with Company standards and agreements.
    • Ensure compliance with DOT rules and regulations.
    • Manage call-ins for the designated geographical area and follow through to an acceptable resolution.
    • Perform routine route maintenance for accounts within the designated service area and work closely with area routers to improve service and efficiencies.
  • Responsible for scheduling activities for the drivers assigned to the designated geographical area, coordinating for backup personnel, and will be required to run routes.
  • Ensure that all required or additional driver's training is accomplished within the established time parameters.
  • Responsible for truck repairs.
  • Responsible for safety and compliance for drivers assigned to the designated geographical area.
    • All units operating properly.
    • Excellent equipment uses and utilization.
    • Ensure drivers operate in compliance with all Federal, State, Local, and Company regulations/policies and procedures.
    • Conduct accident investigations, reporting, follow-up, and discipline, if necessary, in accordance with Company policy.
  • Maintain/monitor reports and data entry related areas to ensure performance of assigned driver staff is meeting established Company expectations.
  • Keep management advised of all performance-related issues and recommend solutions.
  • Daily supervision of designated employees to include routine coaching and counseling.
  • To be effective, communicate both internally with management, employees, supporting staff, and external customers.
  • Expected to perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position will be responsible for supervising designated drivers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of various applications.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the designated service area.
  • Class A CDL required with tanker endorsement.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of Federal/State DOT regulations, OSHA, and other relevant governmental and industrial standards and policies.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to prioritize projects and meet established deadlines.
  • Must demonstrate good interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to analyze situations appropriately and to pursue an effective course of action.
  • Must have an excellent work and safety record.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Frequently required to walk, stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch.
  • Sitting for long periods of time.
  • Ability to stay focused and concentrate on one thing for long periods of time.
  • Occasionally lifts up to 75 lbs.
  • Occasionally push, pull or move up to 250 lbs.
  • Occasionally required to maneuver a fully loaded dolly.
  • Occasionally required to load deadstock and/or bins with assistance from a wench on their vehicle.
  • Regularly required to reach with hands and arms.
