Job summary

Spirit Airlines is actively seeking an Aircraft Engineer focused on structures and compliance. The role involves regulating adherence to FAA directives, reviewing drawings, and delivering engineering solutions to improve fleet reliability.

The ideal candidate has a engineering background, 3–5 years in a technical role, and experience with Airbus A320 family. Willingness to travel and work beyond standard hours is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in a technical field.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure aircraft regulatory compliance to FAA Airworthiness Directives (ADs), Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and other regulations.
  • Control aircraft configuration and build specification.
  • Minimize aircraft out of service time by providing timely operational support and implementing cost effective solutions to improve long term fleet reliability.
  • Develop engineering responses to fleet performance, reliability and safety issues as prioritized by Engineering Management.
  • Identify and implement fleet reliability improvements.
  • Review ADs, FARs, SFARs, other agency requirements (e.g., EPA, FDA) and develop necessary action to ensure compliance.
  • Update aircraft manuals and drawings with changes due to repairs & alterations to ensure NKS aircraft specification is always consistent and up-to-date.
  • Provide effective and timely solutions to requests from other departments (e.g., marketing, in-flight services) that require Engineering’s technical evaluation.
  • Develop cost effective and airworthy solutions.
  • Support line and heavy maintenance in troubleshooting and providing corrective actions, including repair or deviation documentation for assigned discipline.
  • Implement changes as required to improve aircraft reliability.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings and related information.
  • Interpret analytical reports, FARs, ADs and other engineering documents/drawings with guidance.
  • Conduct basic financial analysis to determine cost/benefit relationships.
  • Generate detailed engineering documents with direct supervision.
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Utilize technical problem‑solving skills and analytical methods.
  • Multitask and prioritize multiple projects based on urgency and fleet impact.
  • Practice safety‑conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned. Responsibilities and duties may change when circumstances dictate (e.g., emergencies, changes in workload, rush jobs or technical developments).
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent level of practical experience in an aircraft structures technical discipline.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience within a technical field.
  • Strong preference for previous Airbus experience; experience with the A320 family is ideal.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and related information.
  • Capability to conduct basic financial analysis to determine cost/benefit relationships.
  • Skill in generating detailed engineering documents with direct supervision.
  • Understanding of analytical reports, FARs, ADs and other engineering documents/drawings.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and effective communication both verbally and in writing.
  • Problem‑solving skills using analytical methods.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize projects based on urgency and fleet impact.
  • Practice safety‑conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Access) and AutoCAD (or similar CAD software).
  • Willingness to work beyond the normal 40 hours per week, including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s license and valid passport required.
  • Domestic & International travel approximately 25% of the time.
  • Undertake work at off‑site locations and work outside in any weather conditions.
  • Physical requirement: exert up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. May involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
