Job summary

Indian Health Council is seeking a Transportation Driver to provide non-clinical support by transporting elders and handicapped patients to scheduled appointments. The role requires a high school diploma or GED and an unrestricted driver’s license, with Class B preferred.

The position is onsite, with duties including vehicle maintenance, mileage reporting, and adherence to confidentiality and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Drive elders and handicapped patients to medical and dental appointments.

  • Arrange for vehicle maintenance and off-site transportation as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow HIPAA/compliance guidelines.

SUMMARY

Provide transportation for the handicap & elders from the nine consortium tribes to their scheduled appointments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Drive elders & handicapped patients to and from IHC for dental & medical appointments.
  2. Assists elders & handicapped patients into the vehicle, clears a path for their safety.
  3. Check out IHC & GSA vehicles to employees.
  4. Check medical, dental, and BH schedules every morning.
  5. Provide off-site transportation as requested by the provider.
  6. Compile reports of mileage for IHC vehicles for fiscal department.
  7. Compile reports of mileage for GSA vehicles for GSA.
  8. Prepare board report stats to be turned in monthly to Administration.
  9. Wash all company vehicles weekly.
  10. Check all vehicles at the end of each day to make sure all doors are locked, fills out forms, turns into security.
  11. Arrange for maintenance on all vehicles.
  12. Position may be re-assigned during activation of EOP.
  13. Maintains strong client confidentiality.
  14. Use an electric vehicle and charging system.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

TRAVEL & DRIVING REQUIREMENTS
  • Travel is not required for this position.
  • Driving is required for this position.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Unrestricted drivers license required.
  • Class B drivers license is preferred.
  • 1-3 months experience driving required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of American Indians and Indian values and practices.
  • Must have knowledge of responsibilities involved in doing work that is highly confidential and the handling and processing of confidential information.
  • Must have knowledge of our service area, our nine consortium Indian reservations, for the purpose of transporting patients.
  • Ability to read and interpret road signs in English. Ability to read and understand and adhere to the rules, laws and regulations regarding the safe transportation of residents.
  • Ability to service, fuel, and clean GSA vehicles, van or car and recognize vehicle maintenance needs, conduct inspection of vehicles and report any findings to management for repairs.
  • Reasoning skills to map and route directions and determine driving in adverse weather/road conditions. Ability to maintain vehicle logs regarding mileage, repairs/maintenance.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess good stress management and organizational skills.
  • The ability to establish and maintain relationships with elders in the community and a clear understanding of appropriate cultural customs within this community.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, community groups and the public.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Utilization of Paycom, and PolicyTech systems. Productivity Software: Microsoft Office 365; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email & Calendar Management (outlook), Teams (video conferencing and meetings), and Share Point.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, MEMBERSHIPS AND REGULATIONS
  • A valid California driver’s license and a good driving record (last 7 years) will be required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Current AED CPR certification or attainment within 6 months of hire.
  • Applicants must successfully pass a pre-employment physical exam, tuberculin skin test or x-ray and urine drug screen test.
  • Health must be adequate to perform all duties of the position.
  • Must pass criminal background check.

  • Indoor office and enclosed vehicle settings.
