Job summary

American Commercial Barge Line is seeking a Fleet Deckhand in Cairo, IL to support loading, securing cargo, and vessel maintenance. This role emphasizes safety, teamwork and reliable participation in the 8/4 schedule, with opportunities for home time between voyages.

You will inspect rigging, assist with towing and docking, and help ensure operational readiness while adhering to USCG and environmental regulations.

Qualifications

• Must live within a 50-mile radius.
• Physical fitness to perform strenuous tasks.
• Ability to obtain TWIC credential.
• Ability to work outdoors in heat and cold.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Basic navigation and safety procedure understanding.
• Must be 18 years or older.
• Pass health questionnaire and physical abilities test.
• No current criminal charges or probation.
• Pass pre-employment drug screen.
• Adhere to USCG and environmental regulations.

Responsibilities

• Assist with safe loading and unloading of cargo.
• Inspect and report unsafe conditions affecting crew or cargo.
• Handle rigging during tow building, locking, and docking.
• Assist with loading/unloading materials to/from docks, barges, and boats.
• Inspect cables/wires and tools; tighten/loosen as needed.
• Secure barges with tow wires and cables safely and environmentally.
