Job Description

Does making the great outdoors your office sound fun and exciting? If so, look no further – Ingram Barge Company is looking to bring new hire deckhands onboard!

Note: These positions are located in both our Port Allen, LA, and Reserve, LA fleets. Job assignment depends on your proximity to each fleet. These are fleet work positions, requiring a schedule of 10/5 or 14/7, with the benefit of going home every night.

Important: This is not a liveaboard position. Applicants must live within 45 minutes of Port Allen or Reserve due to commuting requirements.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist deck crew in tow building (laying wires, tightening ratchets, sweeping and shoveling barges)
  • Perform daily vessel housekeeping (sweeping, mopping, cleaning crew quarters)
  • Assist with locking procedures
  • Carry rigging (ratchets, wires, straps), pumps, hoses, and lines
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Inspect barges for water and leaks, sometimes in confined spaces
  • Maintain vessel appearance through washing, chipping, and painting
  • Assist the Engineer as needed
  • Practice safety protocols using Ingram safety systems
  • Participate in safety drills and audits
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or GED required
  • Valid Driver's License required
  • Reliable transportation to work
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC card
  • Pass background check, drug screen, and physical
  • Ability to lift up to 110 pounds for 1000 feet
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and climb ladders
  • Ability to read and write in English
  • Demonstrate safety awareness and teamwork
  • Work extended periods away from home (14, 21, or 28 days)
  • Adaptability to a fast-paced environment and quick response skills
