Job Description

Are you ready to navigate your way toward a new career? Ingram Barge Company is looking to bring both entry level and experienced deckhands onboard to support our fleeting operations in Columbus, KY.

Before applying please note:

Must have Drivers Licenses and a Valid TWIC card.

Columbus vessels work a variety of schedules ranging from 21/21, 14/7, and 7/7. You will be assigned to a vessel after completion of Orientation. Candidates wishing for a position working a 28/28-day schedule should apply to the Linehaul Deckhand posting. Regardless of assignment and schedule, you will be responsible for your own transportation to and from your hitches.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Assist deck crew in tow building (laying wires, tightening ratchets, sweeping and shoveling barges)
  • Perform daily vessel housekeeping (sweeping, mopping, cleaning crew living quarters)
  • Assist with locking operations
  • Carry rigging (ratchets, wires, and straps), pumps, hoses, and lines
  • Work outdoors for extended periods in various weather conditions
  • Check barges for water and leaks, sometimes requiring climbing into confined spaces
  • Maintain vessel appearance through washing, chipping, and painting
  • Assist the Engineer as requested
  • Practice safe crew, vessel, and tow operation using Ingram safety systems
  • Participate in safety drills and audits
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstration of the Ingram Way
  • Ability to uphold high safety standards
  • Ability to work away from home for extended periods (21, 14, or 7 day hitches)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond quickly to unexpected circumstances
  • Critical thinking and decision-making skills
  • Strong communication skills across all organizational levels
  • Teamwork and acceptance of diversity
  • Ability to read and write English to comply with USCG regulations
  • Must obtain a valid TWIC card
  • Pass a post-offer process (background check, drug screen, physical)
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 110 pounds for up to 1000 feet
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and climb ladders, board, and ride in a skiff
