Job Description

Fleet Deckhand – Camanche, IA

This is a full-time, non-exempt position.

Position Summary:
  • ADM is seeking a laborer to work as a deckhand under the direction of a Captain on a tug boat at our American River Transportation Company (ARTCo) fleeting location in Camanche, IA.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Perform vessel housekeeping, including washing, chipping, painting, and cleaning.
  • Assist with tow work, rigging, and building tow for Lineboats.
  • Prepare barges for delivery to local customers.
  • Support barge cleaners, mechanics, and welders as needed.
  • Assist the captain with vessel reports, ensuring compliance with environmental, safety, and USCG regulations.
  • Report injuries, illnesses, and near misses promptly.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Job Requirements:
  • Follow directions and execute tasks under supervision.
  • Experience on inland waterways preferred but not required.
  • Proficient reading and writing skills.
  • Flexible schedule adaptable to vessel needs.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Ability to work in all climates.
  • Demonstrate safe work behavior and commitment to safety policies.
  • Ability to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Current TWIC card required; apply within 5 days if not held.
Schedule:
  • 7 days on, 3 days off, 7 nights on, 4 days off.
Physical Requirements:
  • Pass pre-employment physical, drug screening, and physical ability test.
  • Stand for long periods, lift heavy items, kneel, bend, climb stairs/ladders.
  • Work near water, at heights, and in confined spaces.

Background check required. Base pay varies based on experience and market. Employees are at-will, with potential pay modifications.
