The Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC), Finance and Administration, Fleet Services ensures adherence to State Fiscal and State Fleet Management rules and regulations. The unit provides fleet management to assure a safe and reliable fleet and deliver statewide coordination of the fleet by managing the departments vehicles and trailers. This position manages the coordination, promotion and implementation of the CDOC fleet program for the Canon City Prison Complex.
Serving the Canon Prison Complex fleet of 250 to 500 vehicles, the role supports daily activities and core functional programs across Fleet Services and Maintenance;
Key responsibilities include tracking inventory, preparing service documentation, and supporting maintenance operations and repairs;
Provides direct support to the apprentice program and technical operations while supervising an inmate work crew tasked with vehicle washing and facility upkeep to maintain seamless daily workflow;
Utilizes the CARS database to identify vehicles requiring service, issue service tickets, order necessary parts, and perform routine maintenance support;
Coordinates vehicle sign-out procedures using motor pool checkout forms and provides call center support and facility access;
Assists the Shop Foreman with assigned duties and performs vehicle repairs as needed;
Directly oversees and inspects all completed vehicle washes and detailing work to ensure rigorous, high-quality workmanship standards are consistently met;
Coordinates and oversees comprehensive vehicle repairs, including specialized troubleshooting and maintenance of GEOTab telematics and ChargePoint charging infrastructure systems, while arranging external glass repairs as needed;
Performs thorough daily audits of work crew tools and equipment to confirm all components are fully present, accounted for, and operational, and systematically monitors cleaning supply and chemical inventories on a weekly basis to prevent supply shortages and maintain continuous operations;
Coordinates directly with the Shop Foreman to establish, schedule, and track all mandatory facility, fuel island, life safety, environmental, and sand pit inspections to remain in full compliance with agency regulations;
Oversees inmate workers by enforcing safety rules and CDOC regulations, evaluating performance, managing timecards, and administering the established pay plan;
Co-manage the daily operations, appearance, and safety of the Service Station, ensuring all equipment functions correctly in a clean working environment;
This role shares responsibility for comprehensive security protocols, including key, tool, and chemical control;
Oversee the complete decommissioning and de-outfitting of department vehicles, adhering to standard protocols and addressing specialized fabrication needs as they arise;
This role ensures all turn-in documentation—including photos, auction paperwork, and records packets—is accurately prepared for the Shop Foreman's review;
Additionally, the position manages daily motor pool logistics, enforces vehicle cleanliness schedules, and coordinates transport and retrieval operations from the Denver metro area;
Applies established guidelines such as verbal or written instruction, standard procedures;
Daily schedules, performs, and tracks maintenance and/or repairs of fleet and state owned vehicles, valuates repair/replace options, identifies degree of maintenance required; and maintains security of all vehicles in and around the shop;
Performs additional duties as assigned.
