Job summary

North-Central-Regional-Transit-District is seeking an entry-level staff member to learn and perform routine cleaning, maintenance, and basic repair duties of District facilities and vehicles.

The role includes custodial tasks, grounds maintenance, vehicle fueling, and aiding in fleet operations, with supervision. A valid NM driver's license and the potential CDL within six months are required.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
  • One year of general janitorial, maintenance, landscaping, and/or related experience.
  • Valid New Mexico Driver's License, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Within six months of employment, acquisition of a State of New Mexico CDL-A or B with multi-passenger endorsement and airbrake certification, to be maintained throughout employment.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and maintain District facilities and grounds, including bus stops and shelters.
  • Perform custodial duties: floors, restrooms, dusting, vacuuming, waste removal, and surface cleaning.
  • Assist in vehicle fueling, transport, and routine fleet maintenance.
  • Support basic building repairs and fixture maintenance.
  • Assist with safety inspections and monitoring of security systems.
  • Pre- and post-trip vehicle preparation and debris collection.
  • Observe all safety rules and regulations.

Job description

This entry-level classification initially works under close supervision and learns and performs routine cleaning, maintenance, and assists in basic repair duties of District facilities and vehicles.

  • Cleans and maintains District properties; maintains grounds and landscaping at various District facilities including shelters and bus stops; performs inspections of and maintains bus shelters, signage, and trash receptacles.
  • Performs a variety of custodial duties to keep District facilities in a clean and orderly condition; cleans floors, washes walls and glass, and removes trash; performs wet or dry mopping of the floors; cleans restrooms, vacuums carpets, and dusts furniture; identifies repair needs and informs management.
  • Performs various weekly duties including dusting windowsills and wall picture frames; dusts and disinfects vertical surfaces of desks, file cabinets, chairs, tables, and other office furniture; vacuums carpeting, including under desks, chairs, and tables; cleans hard surfaces; cleans and dry polishes glass surfaces.
  • Performs snowplowing of parking lots and bus pull outs as needed; shovels snow from sidewalks and shelters as needed.
  • Assists in shuttling buses and other District vehicle inventory to needed service sites or to deliver to maintenance locations; safely operates a variety of vehicles and buses to and from repair facilities when repairs and servicing is required; washes fleet vehicles and details interiors of fleet vehicles as required; performs routine maintenance such as bulb replacements and graffiti removal as needed.
  • Assists in repairing and maintaining building fixtures and furniture; assists in repairs and maintenance of toilets, sinks, water fountains, and drainage pipes; assists in replacing or installing doors, locks, windows, and related hardware; assists with replacement of burned out or non-functioning lighting fixtures both internally and externally.
  • Assists in maintaining building safety features; documents fire extinguisher inspections; ensures security systems are functional and operating; checks for and reports signs of vandalism and theft.
  • Serves as a member of the Fleet Operations maintenance team; pre and post trips vehicles, collecting debris and equipment;
  • Fuels or charges vehicles.
  • Assists as a mechanic helper; provides hands‑on help to mechanics engaged in complex operations.
  • Observes and complies with all District and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Education
  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
Experience
  • One (1) year of general janitorial, maintenance, landscaping, and/or related experience.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Possession of, or successful acquisition within six (6) months of employment, a valid State of New Mexico Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A or B) with multi-passenger "P" endorsement and airbrake certification, to be maintained throughout employment.
