Job summary

The Planet Group in Michigan is seeking a Fleet Safety and Quality Engineer to oversee safety, quality, and compliance of fleet vehicles and equipment, guiding vendors and internal teams on specifications and modifications.

You will lead investigations of field defects, provide technical guidance on safety, and manage pilot programs for new technology while ensuring DOT and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma with 9+ years of fleet specs/admin experience.
• Associate Degree in Engineering with 7+ years of relevant experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with 5+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversee quality control to ensure new fleet vehicles and equipment meet specifications and quality standards.
• Develop vehicle designs and specifications based on business needs, including weight capacity, upfits, equipment placement, and technology.
• Coordinate vehicle retrofits and modifications to meet performance, environmental, regulatory, and safety requirements.
• Investigate and coordinate the resolution of vehicle and equipment field defects.
• Address vehicle safety concerns and provide technical guidance on fleet-related issues.
• Lead investigations and determine corrective actions for vehicle and equipment safety issues.
• Oversee vehicle, equipment, and new technology pilot programs, including testing, analysis, and implementation recommendations.
• Support vendor relationships and coordinate training for operators and mechanics on new vehicles and equipment.
• Ensure fleet assets comply with applicable government regulations and safety standards, including Department of Transportation requirements.

Job description

Responsible for ensuring the safety, quality, and compliance of fleet vehicles and equipment. Oversees vehicle specifications, engineering requirements, regulatory standards, and risk analysis. Works with vendors and internal teams to evaluate specifications for new vehicles and determine modifications needed for existing fleet assets.

Provides technical guidance on vehicle and equipment safety issues, including field defect investigations, corrective actions, and reporting to leadership.

Candidates must meet one of the following:

High School Diploma and 9 years of experience working with fleet specifications and administration in an industrial or commercial environment; OR

Associate Degree in Engineering or a related field and 7 years of relevant experience; OR

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related field and 5 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with utility fleet specifications.

Experience with medium-duty vehicles.
