Job summary

Commercial Metals is seeking a Class A CDL driver to support delivery operations across the regional area. You will accurately complete delivery paperwork and coordinate with production, sales and customers to communicate load issues and delivery times.

You will perform daily pre-trip/inter-trip/post-trip inspections, maintain logs under DOT rules, and ensure safe, timely deliveries. The role requires lifting up to 65 lbs, working 12-hour shifts with overtime, weekends and holidays, and holding

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Class A CDL required.
  • At least 1 year of verified tractor-trailer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately complete delivery paperwork and coordinate with production, sales and customers to communicate load issues and delivery times.
  • Drive safely adhering to PPE, DOT, and company safety rules and regulations.
  • Weigh, load, secure loads and document weights along routes to ensure compliance.
  • Inspect vehicles for safety/operational defects and maintain logs of working hours or vehicle status.
  • Perform pre-, inter-, and post-trip inspections and handle loading/unloading duties as needed.
  • Deliver products to customers, contractors and jobsites within the geographic region and support load management.

What You'll Do
  • Accurately complete corresponding delivery paperwork and work with production, sales and customers to communicate issues with loads and delivery time
  • Work safely to prevent on the job injuries by always following safety rules and regulations including proper wearing of company PPE
  • Drive trucks to weigh stations before and after loading and along routes to document weights and to comply with state regulations
  • Ensure vehicle is properly loaded and load secured and product is delivered safely and timely
  • Ability to inspect vehicle(s) for any safety or operational defects using DOT, maintenance, and safety checklists and ensuring emergency equipment is in proper working order
  • Inventory and inspect goods to be moved to determine quantities and conditions.
  • Loading truck may require: securing chains across the width of a trailer to secure the product, both on the bed of a trailer and in an overhead rack, tarping of loads on trailers, and dropping and hooking a trailer
  • Maintain logs of working hours or of vehicle service or repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations
  • Must be able to work a 12 hour shift, which includes overtime, weekends and holidays
  • Performs daily Pre-Trip, Inter-Trip, and Post Trip Inspections.
  • Responsible for the delivery of products to customers, contractors, and jobsites throughout the location geographic region
  • Set up a sideboard kit around the perimeter of the trailer floor
  • Use of Electronic Logging Devices (ELD) during operation of vehicle; driver will be trained accordingly
  • Perform additional duties as needed
What You'll Need
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • No DUI/DWI within the past five years
  • No more than 1 moving violation in the previous 3 years
  • Must be able to lift up to 65 lbs
  • Driver must be knowledgeable in D.O.T. Regulations/Requirements
  • Frequent physical activity such as walking, climbing stairs/ladders, works with chains, drops and hooks trailers, performs inspections and reaches to work with equipment throughout the entire shift
  • Must be able to work outside under all weather conditions to include working in the heat and cold weather
  • Must be willing to learn and tackle new challenges
  • Must have effective listening and verbal skills to identify important information and to engage with internal and external customers
  • Must speak and understand English language in verbal and written communication
  • No on-road preventable accidents during the past (3) years as shown on the Motor Vehicle Road (MVR); accidents are reviewed by CMC Logistics
  • Pass required D.O.T. and CMC Logistics drug testing programs and physicals as required by D.O.T.
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver License required
  • At least 1 year of verified tractor-trailer experience (3 years flatbed OTR preferred)
  • Work well with team members or independently; give and receive feedback in a constructive manner
Your Education
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience is required
