Overview

Job Title: Flat Welder

Basic Purpose of the Position: To provide the highest quality, safety, and performance standards within grade in the Flat Welding department.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain production schedule
  • Weld Black, Galvanized and Stainless Steel at the highest quality
  • Mig weld meeting all quality and quantity standards
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance PMs as the operator’s responsibility
  • Complete all production and quality documentation
  • Assist in all other departments as required
  • Maintain a high quality of weld appearance
  • Maintain a high production rate within the skill level averaging 85% and above
  • Make quality checks to ensure materials, parts and workmanship are compliant with engineering requirements and production expectations

  • Understand and follow all MAPs, PAPs, CRN, B31.5, ASME, TMIs, TPIs, and SOPs pertaining to the product
  • Complete all documents pertaining to the process
  • Safe operation of overhead cranes and jib booms
  • Determine good weld quality during welding and make corrections as needed
  • Assist in other areas of the shop when needed
  • Maintain the ability to recertify as needed (Structural Certifications)
  • Mentor less experienced welders
Knowledge, Skills, & Experience
  • Basic shop math (add/subtract/divide/multiply, whole numbers and fractions)
  • Read a tape measure to within 1/16”
  • A general understanding of common hand tools
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Able to read and understand engineering prints related to the process
  • Maintain the required welder certification within the skill level
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Manufacturing environment
  • Continuous standing, squatting, bending, pulling, and lifting
  • Wear PPE in manufacturing areas
  • Shift work: days or evenings, Monday through Friday, with some Saturdays and Sundays
  • Job progression: assisting in planning of the department in the supervisor’s absence, including department reporting, setup, and flow of production within the shift and for the next shift
