Title and Reporting

Title: Flat Rate Technician (includes Technician, ASE Technician, and Master Technician)

Reporting to: Service Manager

Employment Classification

Summary

The Flat Rate Technician lives VIP’s mission to EARN AUTOMOTIVE CUSTOMERS FOR LIFE by embracing VIP culture and processes. Responsibilities include diagnosing automotive systems, repairing and replacing parts, and ensuring services are done right the first time, all while following safety and regulatory standards.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Prioritize workplace safety, follow policies, and report unsafe conditions.
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain automotive systems, including all ASE-certified areas.
  • Manage Service Work Orders and ensure proper documentation and vehicle handling.
  • Obtain parts from authorized personnel and return unused parts accordingly.
  • Maintain shop cleanliness and safety standards, participate in safety training.
  • Support team through training, certifications, and active participation in meetings.
Performance & Work Standards
  • Maintain productivity levels (e.g., 80% for Technician, 90% for ASE Technician, 100% for Master Technician).
  • Ensure quality work with minimal rework or callbacks.
Work Schedule & Qualifications
  • Standard 5-day, 40-hour work week.
  • Minimum 1-year automotive service experience; technical training preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license, ASE certifications, and state inspection license required.
Work Environment & Physical Demands

Indoor shop environment with exposure to weather, chemicals, and noise. Physical activities include standing, reaching, lifting, and operating equipment, with safety gear required.
