Job summary

Tri State Paving in Chattanooga, TN is seeking a flagger to safely direct traffic around roadway construction sites. You will use signs, paddles, flags, and hand signals to protect workers and motorists while controlling vehicle flow.

The role requires alertness, ability to communicate clearly, and adherence to safety procedures; PPE provided; physical demands include standing for long periods and manual tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

• Stands in position at the site and watches for road traffic to protect equipment and employees
• Assists in the placement, moving and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones and other traffic control devices
• Controls signaling devices and apparatus to safely direct traffic through crossing
• Receives and communicates specific instructions clearly, firmly and courteously
• Moves and maneuvers quickly to avoid danger from errant vehicles
• Controls signaling devices (such as paddles and flags) in order to provide clear and positive guidance to drivers approaching traffic control zone
• Understands and applies safe traffic control practices, sometimes in stressful or emergency situations
• Recognize dangerous traffic situations and warns workers in sufficient time to avoid injury
• Performs a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in heavy/highway and other construction projects
• Performs manual work in preparing surfaces for paving and/or concrete
• Wears required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times
• Practices workplace safety continually; and
• Performs other duties as required or assigned

Job Summary:

Flagger controls and directs movement of vehicular traffic through roadway construction sites using sign, hand, and flag signals. Warns construction workers when approaching vehicle fails to heed signals to prevent accident and injury to workers. Informs drivers of detour routes through construction sites. Flaggers are responsible for public safety and all highway workers. The position may assist other craft workers within restraints of physical requirements.
