Job summary

Derby Public Schools (KS) USD 260 is seeking a non-exempt high school coach responsible for teaching game strategies and motivating student-athletes to develop a love of sport. The role supports a positive educational experience and requires certification or the ability to obtain KSHSAA Rule 10 certification.

You will work under the Head Coach, Principal and District Athletic/Activities Director, adhering to district policies and safety guidelines while fostering public relations with students

Qualifications

• Teaching certification or ability to obtain Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) Rule 10 certification.
• Fundamental knowledge of the activity.
• Ability to select from a variety of instruction methods to teach sport specific objectives.
• Knowledge of CPR and First Aid is encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Develop drill and practice activities to teach and enhance skill development for the game.
• Possess knowledge of sport rules and strategies.
• Assist in checking out, maintaining, and checking in equipment.
• Plan and enforce appropriate safety and health rules and regulations.
• Assist in supervision to ensure student safety during locker rooms, trips, practices, etc.
• Maintain confidentiality about students and others.
• Communicate in a professional manner with stakeholders.
• Be an effective communicator with players, parents, supervisors, peers and spectators.
• Receive, understand and follow directions.
• Model and demonstrate activities and equipment used to develop skills.
• Observe, diagnose, and prescribe remediation during practice and games.
• Apply developmental stages to meet team/players' needs.
