Job summary

Family Life Academy Charter Schools in New York is seeking a School Custodian to provide custodial services, ensuring a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment for students and staff. Under the supervision of the Principal, Head Custodians, and Network Supervisor, you will help ensure campus readiness and participate in annual evaluations.

This role requires physical fitness, the ability to lift 35+ lbs, and prior custodian experience.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school graduate required; construction or facilities related education preferred but not required.
• Very good physical condition and ability to lift 35+ lbs.
• Attention to detail and conscientiousness.
• Proven experience as custodian, janitor, or in a similar role.
• NYS fingerprint clearance and knowledge of safe chemical disposal preferred.

Responsibilities

• Clean assigned facilities and grounds to maintain a sanitary, safe environment.
• Move books, files, boxes, furniture, etc.
• Clean and sterilize high-use areas to reduce spread of bacteria and hazards.
• Travel to nearby schools or storage as required.
• Perform building maintenance: drywall, carpentry, lighting, painting, tile, landscaping.
• Attend meetings, trainings, and briefings as needed.
• Maintain exterior of sites including snow/ice removal and trash removal.
• Carry a handheld radio on school property if assigned.
• Follow federal/state laws and company policies.
• Report and assist with emergencies as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Title: School Custodian

Reports to: School Principal and Director of Facilities and School Safety

Salary: $21 to $ 25 per hour

Position Overview:

The School Custodian provides custodial services at the assigned site; ensuring an attractive, sanitary, and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors. The School Custodian is an important part of the FLACS family, working to ensure the readiness of FLACS schools. Under the supervision of the building’s Principal, Head Custodians, and Network Supervisor who will provide an annual evaluation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Clean assigned facilities and/or grounds (e.g. classrooms, offices, gym, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, grounds, etc.) to maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment while adhering to maximum safety procedures.
• Move books, files, boxes, furniture, etc.
• Clean and sterilize all high-use areas to reduce the spread of bacteria and any other harmful agents.
• Travel to nearby schools or warehouse/storage as required.
• Perform maintenance of the building, such as drywall repairs; minor carpentry; classroom furniture; replacing light bulbs, & fixtures; painting projects; ceiling tile replacement; playground maintenance, athletic areas, grounds repairs; equipment audits, building inspections; safety issues, repairs; small landscaping projects; additional items as they arise.
• Participate in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars to convey and/or gather information required to perform job functions.
• Maintain exterior of the sites, including snow/ice removal, trash removal, etc. as needed
• Carry a handheld radio at all times while on school property if assigned by the Supervisor
• Follow federal and state laws, as well as company policies.
