Job summary

ASTEC is seeking a Welder for the 2nd shift to safely assemble asphalt plant equipment and related components. The role requires skilled welding (GMAW/FCAW), reading weld symbols, and operating cranes/forklifts with attention to safety and quality. Applicants must pass a welding skills test and be able to work overtime as needed.

The position offers full-time hours with pay starting at $22.51 per hour, plus benefits including dental, health, and vision insurance. EOE.

Qualifications

Summary

Safely erects and fits together appropriate equipment and materials for the building of asphalt plant and related components.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in the building of asphalt plant equipment and related components by safely and efficiently fitting and welding metal parts in a quality-conscious manner.
  • Must be able to demonstrate ability to properly and weld using the GMAW and FCAW processes.
  • Inspects metal prior to welding for smoothness and acceptability and produces welds with minimal post grinding.
  • Ensures welding machine settings are appropriate for work to be performed.
  • Must be trained in and know PPE requirements for welding, including hood and filter shades and arm/body protection.
  • Always follow proper safety rules and procedures.
  • Overtime including weekends may be required as necessary.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, And ABILITIES

  • Ability and experience to weld properly and safely using GMAW and FCAW.
  • Ability to read and understand weld symbols on drawings required.
  • Ability to safely use cranes and forklifts required.
  • Must be able to pass a welding skills test.
  • Fit-up knowledge and ability required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent certification required.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; and ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop and kneel, or crawl; and talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee must occasionally move more than 49 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment is a shop, warehouse, and asphalt plant environment. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level is occasionally very loud.
