About the job

As a Fitter Welder, you will play a crucial role in our team, responsible for laying out, fitting, tacking, and welding steel components and assemblies. Using various power tools and welding equipment, you will follow blueprint specifications to ensure precision and quality. Your expertise will be key in producing welds with a smooth appearance, free from undercuts and weld spatter. You will fuse metal according to job specifications, meeting both aesthetic and structural standards. Additionally, you will be expected to complete assignments with accuracy, ensuring they meet specific dimensional requirements. These key performance measurements will contribute to the overall success and growth of our organization.

This position is in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

As a part of the team, you will:

  • Follow all safety policies and company-wide safety requirements; encourages action assuring safe behaviour; confronts unsafe behaviour and conditions proactively and positively.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean work area both during and at the end of each work shift.
  • Follow directions or instructions and asks questions for clarification.
  • Reads blueprints and instructions to understand weld procedures and job specifications.
  • Operate power tools, mig welder, grinders, plasma cutter, drill press, band saw, and oxyacetylene torch to cut and connect parts.
  • Ability to assemble parts using bolts, clamps, and tack-welds.
  • Plan the structure/frame layout, positing, aligning, fit-up and welding sequence to ensure safety and quality.
  • Perform final check of welded surfaces to assess weld quality and correct imperfections to meet job specifications.
  • Correct imperfections by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts, using cutting torch, straightening press, and hand tools.
  • Use precision measuring instruments to test grooves, angles or gap allowances.
  • Provides needed material(s) to various workstations and/or locations.
  • Load and unload trucks, units, and parts as needed.
  • Complete Preventive Maintenance Checklist and performs routine machine maintenance as required.
  • Assist Team Lead or Team Manager with various tasks as needed to include training of new team members.
  • Crosstrain in other areas/departments as needed to include acquiring new skills.
  • Perform other assigned tasks as needed.

What you know:

You have High School diploma or GED, required with relevant experience, and:

  • Minimum 1 years of professional experience related to manufacturing
  • Basic math skills including the ability to read a tape measure required.
  • Experience using MIG and oxyacetylene torches required.
  • Hand power tools and drill/saw machinery operation or related experience required.
  • Overhead crane experience required.
  • Forklift operation certification preferred.

Physical and Environmental Factors:

  • Exert up to 60 pounds of force frequently and exert up to 30 pounds constantly.
  • Stand or walk 70% of workday.
  • Must be able to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push or pull, lift, ability to use fingers, grasp, talk, hear, and complete repetitive motion.
  • Required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment.
  • Exposure to various weather conditions cold or hot, wet/humid conditions, and loud noise levels. No climate-controlled environment.
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), included to but not limited to steel-toe boots, safety glasses, and ear plugs.
