Job summary

SC Steel, LLC in South Carolina seeks a motivated Structural Fabricator to fabricate and assemble material per detailed drawings, safely and efficiently while upholding quality. You will read drawings, layout steel, bevel edges, and prepare parts for welding, using a variety of hand and power tools.

Successful candidates will have a High School Diploma or GED, be comfortable interpreting fabrications, and deliver precise work within production schedules.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience reading fabrication drawings preferred.
• Ability to read geometry and measurements.

Responsibilities

• Operate cutting torch, grinders, drills and other hand tools.
• Layout structural steel from drawings using points and dimensions.
• Prepare materials for fitting and welding, bevel edges for full penetration welds.
• Cut, drill, grind, bevel, and modify materials per fabrication drawings.
• Plan tasks to ensure welds are accessible and pieces fit properly.
• Create templates, fixtures, and jigs for safe accurate assembly.
• Read and interpret structural fabrication drawings.
• Apply geometry and trigonometry to set-ups and processes.
• Use judgement to sequence operations within standard methods.

SC Steel, LLC was established January 2, 2018, as a subsidiary of FabSouth and acquired the assets of SMI‑Owen Steel Company, Inc. on April 1, 2018. SMI‑Owen Steel Company had owned the business since 1994 when they acquired it from South Carolina Steel Company. The Upstate South Carolina facility has been in operation at this location since 1952.

Job Overview

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Structural Fabricator. This team member will fabricate and assemble material for most types of finished assemblies per detail drawings, in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining high quality. Performs at a highly proficient and independent level in order to achieve the set goals for safety, quality, delivery, and cost.

Roles and Responsibilities

1. Ability to operate a cutting torch, hand grinder, drills, and other hand and power tools.
2. Layout structural steel according to the drawing using information such as work points, linear dimensions, angular dimensions, and three‑dimensional conceptualization.
3. Prepare materials for fitting and welding, including beveling edges of steel for full penetration welds.
4. Cut, drill, grind, bevel, and otherwise modify materials to conform to specifications and dimension provided on fabrication drawings.
5. Order the tasks required appropriately in order to ensure that all welds are accessible, and all pieces fit properly.
6. Create templates, fixtures, and jigs in order to safely and accurately assemble the pieces into the finished product.

Additional Responsibilities

• Ability to read and interpret Structural fabrication drawings.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
• Use of judgement to plan, perform, and make decisions as to the sequences of set‑ups, operations, and processes within the limitations of recognized or standard methods and procedures.

• Small magnets to hold tape measure
