Job summary

Kelvion is seeking a skilled grinder/welder to prepare metal components by grinding and smoothing surfaces. You will use grinders and welders to ensure high-quality finishes on structural parts, with crane-assisted positioning and defect inspection.

The role requires the ability to work on-site, perform tasks safely in a fast-paced environment, and occasionally work overtime. Prior experience is preferred but not required, with a comprehensive benefits package offered.

• Operate grinders, select abrasives, and remove defects from metal parts.
• Position parts manually or with cranes and inspect for flaws.

Responsibilities

• Grind, chip weld splatter, burrs, and rust from surfaces.
• Move/position workpieces using cranes; check surface defects by touch.
• Select abrasive tools per specification and metal condition.
• Operate MIG welder to fuse metal pieces.
• Maintain regular attendance and on-site presence; work overtime as needed.

The Role

Grind and smooth surfaces of product by performing the following duties.

What you will be responsible for:

• Ability to grind, chip weld splatter, high spot, burr, and rust from surfaces of structure components.
• Ability to position work pieces manually or by using overhead or jib cranes. Examines and feels surface of work piece for defects.
• Selects grade of abrasive wheel, disk and die grinder bits according to specification, knowledge of abrasives, and condition of metal, and attaches to grinder.
• Ability to pull trigger to start power tool and move it over surface of work piece to remove scratches, laminated metal, excess weld material, and burrs.
• Ability to load trucks.
• Ability to chip or grind out pits or cracks; replace worn abrasive disks, wheels, and die grinder bits.
• Must be able to operate a mig welder and fuse to piece of metal.
• Regular attendance, ability to arrive at work punctually, ability to work on-site, ability to work overtime.
• Ability to work cooperatively with others, ability to deal respectfully with the public, customers, vendors, other employees, managers, and executive management.
• Ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, ability to interchange with others in the department.

COMPETENCY OR POSITION REQUIREMENTS (knowledge, skills, and abilities)

• Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (required levels)

• Prior experience preferred, but not required
