Job Details: Job Location: Ganado, AZ 86505, Position Type: Full Time, Position Summary: Under supervision of the Wellness Center Supervisor, the Fitness Trainer is responsible for developing, coordinating and leading exercise/wellness activities, utilizing the mind/body connection that encourages a positive attitude, and proactively participates in Hoo’zhoo’gii Wellness Center activities, including positive interaction with patients and patient referrals, policy initiation/enforcement, and participating in the established wellness model. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information, and properly safeguards patient-related information.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop, coordinate and lead exercise/wellness activities, such as low impact aerobics, general fitness, and/or weight training, fun walk/run, health related workshops, walking clubs, health fairs, recreational sports, etc.
- Provide physical performance evaluations; designs exercise programs unique to participants; monitors and evaluates participant(s) response to prescribed exercise.
- Provide appropriate follow up data to health professionals such as physicians and dieticians concerning participant’s progress.
- Provide technical advice and response to program goals and questions.
- Perform follow up communication with participants.
- Develop and implements new wellness/fitness programs and activities.
- Ensure adherence to applicable safety and injury prevention policies and procedures.
- Coordinate with local programs, chapters, and schools to increase community development, support awareness of prevention and better health habits.
- Research and locate available resources.
- Maintain an automated tracking system to collect data and compile reports to ensure compliance with contract provisions.
- Coordinate activities of program with interrelated activities of other programs, departments or staff to ensure optimum efficiency and compliance with appropriate policies and procedures.
- Develop and provide orientation on proper use of exercise equipment and sauna, one‑on‑one/group training activities, instructions and educational materials for wellness education.
- Develop and compile promotional literature for distribution.
- Enforce infection control policies of the hospital to maintain a clean environment.
- Responsible for cleanliness of exercise areas and exercises.
- Responsible for operation, maintenance, and upkeep of the Diabetes Garden
- Enforce established safety practices and procedures to ensure a harassment free work place.
- Prepare various reports, including but not limited to, Policies & Procedures, Quality Council, Safety, Mass Flu Vaccination, Occurrence Reports and patient referrals.
- Maintain daily sign-in sheets and other records for the department.
- Coordinate wellness center-sponsored activities with various departments such as Child Care Center, Nursing, and Diabetes Program.
- Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications:
- Certified Personal Trainer Certification preferred; or must obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
- One (1) year of physical and wellness education experience.
- Must possess American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
- Valid state driver license and maintain a clean driving record to ensure coverage under company insurance during employment.
- Must be able to successfully pass an Employee Health Screening and background investigation.
Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications:
- Knowledge of exercise physiology theory and principles.
- Knowledge of appropriate emergency procedures in situations that might arise prior to, during and after exercise.
- Knowledge of fitness training and education methods and techniques in area of specialty.
- Knowledge of the operations and maintenance of fitness equipment and facilities.
- Skills in the use of first aid procedures.
- Skills in interacting with patients from various social, economic, cultural, spiritual and psychological backgrounds.
- Skill in communicating effectively in oral and written form.
- Skills in establishing cooperative work relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Basic computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel programs
- Ability to comprehend and develop greater understanding of Sage Memorial Hospital Quality Improvement programs.
Physical Demands:
This position requires physical dexterity to perform all of the duties expected including running, walking, stooping, bending, jumping, lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds, and any other physical demands required to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Work Environment:
Work involves a moderate level of noise, exposure to seasonal heat and cold weather conditions, and other environmental elements. Rotating shifts are required.
