Bayou Bend Fitness Center, part of Bayou Bend Health System, seeks a Fitness Specialist to deliver outstanding member service and safe fitness guidance. You will assist with equipment use, orientations, and wellness programming while promoting a welcoming environment.

The role focuses on engaging members, maintaining floor safety, and supporting community wellness initiatives. CPR/First Aid and an exercise science background are preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Health Promotion, or related field preferred.
• Nationally recognized fitness certification preferred (ACSM, ACE, NASM, NSCA, or equivalent).
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification required.
• Knowledge of exercise science principles and proper equipment use.

• Assist members with proper equipment use and exercise techniques within scope of practice.

• Identify and report maintenance or safety concerns for equipment.
• Promote fitness programs, services, and wellness initiatives.
• Participate in member engagement activities and events.
• Stay current on fitness industry standards and facility offerings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Fitness Specialist is responsible for providing exceptional customer service and support to members and guests of Bayou Bend Fitness Center. This position promotes a safe, welcoming, and engaging fitness environment through member interaction, exercise guidance, facility oversight, and support of wellness programming. The Fitness Specialist serves as a visible resource on the fitness floor and contributes to the mission and goals of Bayou Bend Fitness Center and Bayou Bend Health System.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide outstanding customer service by greeting, assisting, and engaging members and guests throughout the facility.
• Maintain an active presence on the fitness floor to promote member safety, exercise adherence, and positive member experiences.
• Assist members with proper equipment use, exercise techniques, and general fitness questions within the scope of practice.
• Support new member orientations, fitness assessments, Wellness Quest appointments, and other fitness services as assigned.
• Monitor fitness areas to ensure cleanliness, organization, safety, and compliance with facility policies.
• Assist with equipment upkeep by identifying and reporting maintenance or safety concerns.
• Promote fitness center programs, services, wellness initiatives, and special events.
• Participate in member engagement activities, wellness programs, and facility-wide events.
• Maintain knowledge of current fitness industry standards, exercise guidelines, and facility offerings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Health Promotion, or related field preferred.
• Nationally recognized fitness certification preferred (ACSM, ACE, NASM, NSCA, or equivalent).
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification required.
• Knowledge of exercise science principles, equipment operation, and safe exercise techniques.
• Ability to demonstrate proper exercise form and equipment use.
• Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with individuals of varying ages, abilities, and fitness levels.
• Dependable, professional, and team oriented.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and fitness-related software systems preferred.
