The University of California, Los Angeles seeks a Fitness Instructor for its Lake Arrowhead Lodge. This role involves developing and leading fitness classes while ensuring excellent service for guests. Department Summary UCLA Lake Arrowhead Lodge is a unique Southern California meeting, retreat, and leisure resort venue. Located high in the pine-studded San Bernardino Mountains on the tranquil shores of Lake Arrowhead, our 50-acre lodge provides meeting space and accommodations for groups from September through mid-June. During the summer, Bruin Woods Family Camp program runs for ten consecutive weeks, with up to 80 families attending each week. Position Summary Under direction from the Guest Experience Manager and supervision of the Guest Experience Coordinators, the Fitness Instructor will assist in the administration and implementation of various fitness classes as part of the overall guest experience at LAL. Responsibilities include class development, preparation, set-up, demonstration of exercises and routines, monitoring participants to ensure they are using proper form, instructional support, and replacement to storage of fitness equipment. Fitness Instructors are expected to maintain the high standard of customer service set by the LAL team. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications Demonstrated ability to facilitate and design fitness curriculum and classes specific to the individual qualifications and certifications required for the type of class offered (Required) Demonstrated service orientation skills and ability to satisfy guests’ needs and make them comfortable (Required) Knowledge of where to go within the organization for needed information and the ability to discern what information should be passed on (Required) Interacting diplomatically with guests and having the ability to maintain equanimity in the face of resistance in a public contact situation. (Required) Skill in reading English, simple sentences, and numbers in using essential spoken English words and phrases to communicate with guests (Required) Skill in working independently and following through in assignments with minimal direction (Required) Skill in performing during frequent interruptions and/or distractions all the while exhibiting a pleasing demeanor (Required) Skill in working as part of a team; collaborating with colleagues (Required) Ability to use judgment and prior knowledge to make decisions concerning guest services as well as identify potential hazards and mitigate these risks to prioritize safety (Required) Ability to work varied hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays (Required) Ability and license to operate a class C motor vehicle for transport of guests and/or program supplies (Required) Demonstrated proficiency in instructing fitness classes, such as yoga, Zumba, Pilates, or cardio classes (Required) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Certification by the American Red Cross in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) (Required) And Ability to drive a University vehicle for University business in accordance with all laws and regulations in addition to maintaining a current, valid California Driver's License (Preferred) And First Aid (Required) And Fitness-specific instructor certification by licensed governing body (Required) And Minimal amount of required hours as determined by issuing association of instructor certification completed and recorded (Required) Special Conditions for Employment Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation. Live Scan Background Check: A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment. Age Requirement: Candidate(s) must be 18 years or older to be eligible to be hired.
