Job summary

YMCA of the Twin Tiers seeks a dedicated fitness instructor to lead Silver Sneakers/AOA classes on site in New York. You will create a safe, enjoyable environment, welcome members, and promote wellness in line with YMCA policies.

You'll build relationships with members, stay current on wellness trends, maintain class attendance records, and respond to emergencies while supporting the YMCA mission and core values.

Qualifications

• Certifications in group fitness instruction from ACE/NETA/AFAA/NASM or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise.
• YMCA Healthy Lifestyles certification required within 6 months of hire.
• Completion of in-house mentoring program under supervision qualifies a candidate.
• At least one year of experience teaching group wellness classes preferred.

Responsibilities

• Leads group Silver Sneaker/AOA classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
• Conducts energizing, fun, safe, and educational classes.
• Builds effective relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
• Maintains working knowledge of wellness trends to provide effective information and support to members.
• Keeps accurate class attendance records.
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.

Greets everyone by using names whenever possible; extends thanks whenever appropriate; makes relationship building the number one priority at all times. This position is responsible for ensuring that the mission, purpose, image and core values of the YMCA is conveyed.

Qualifications

• Certification from an accredited organization (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) in group fitness instruction OR YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise certification OR completion of in-house mentoring program under supervision of selected Wellness staff.
• Certification in areas of expertise.
• YMCA Healthy Lifestyles certification within 6 months of hire.
• At least one year of experience teaching group wellness classes preferred.
