The YMCA of Coastal Georgia is seeking a Fitness Attendant to assist members with orientations, monitor equipment use, and help maintain a safe, welcoming fitness area. You will promote a positive experience and be a friendly liaison between participants and staff.

You will also perform cleaning and organization of equipment, assist with program participation, and support staff during shifts. CPR/First Aid certification within 30 days is required, and a high school diploma or GED is expected.

• Ability to supervise large groups in a workout environment.

POSITION SUMMARY:The Fitness Attendant is responsible for serving as a liaison between the participants, members, and professional staff concerning all fitness equipment, programs, and policies. The Fitness Attendant also ensures the safety of all program participants.In addition, every position in the YMCA of Coastal Georgia, Inc. is responsible for upholding the Judeo-Christian principles that are central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the four pillars of character - caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Instruct members in fitness orientations, according to accepted fitness standardsMonitor the use of all fitness equipment to ensure member safetyClean all equipment and fitness areas each shift and prior to going off shiftKeep all weights properly stored on racks when not in useMonitor equipment and facilities in separate locker/fitness areasAttendant scheduled during non-business Welcome Center hours completes detailed cleaning checklist daily in various areas of the building. Additional cleaning and upkeep duties may be required throughout midday shiftInspect the facility to ensure member and program participant safety and service are being realized. In the absence of branch leadership, and especially during non-business hours, the Fitness Attendant may be required to supervise facility and ensure the continuation of smooth business operations.Assist in the overall retention and satisfaction of YMCA members through appropriate customer serviceAssist in the Annual Campaign fundraising program for the YMCAMaintain a positive and cheerful attitude with staff, peers, and program participantsWillingly perform other duties as assignedThis organization has zero tolerance for abuse and will not tolerate the mistreatment or abuse of consumers in its programs. Any mistreatment or abuse by an employee or volunteer will result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment or volunteer service and cooperation with law enforcement. This organization takes every allegation of abuse or misconduct seriously and will fully cooperate with the authorities to investigate all cases of alleged abuse or misconduct. Employees and volunteers shall cooperate with any external investigation by outside authorities or internal investigation conducted by the organization or persons given investigative authority by the organization. An employee or volunteer’s failure to cooperate with an investigation will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment or dismissal from the organization.QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Depending on shift, may require candidate to be 18 years of age.Sound working knowledge of accepted fitness practice and standards.Ability to develop and implement exercise plans for members.Ability to foster positive staff, peer, and program participant relations.Ability to supervise large groups of program participants in a workout environment.Assist in the overall retention and satisfaction of YMCA members through appropriate customer service.CPR and First Aid required within 30 days of employment.Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain authorization to work with children under the Georgia Department of Labor and YMCA guidelines.
