Job summary

The State of California's Department of Fish and Wildlife in Arcata is seeking three Fish and Wildlife Scientific Aids to support sampling of salmon and trout across coastal watersheds, using nets, traps, snorkeling, and SONAR.

You will gain hands-on experience in fisheries science, learn data visualization and project reporting, and work up to 40 hours per week in outdoor field settings.

Qualifications

• Minimum Requirements are in the Class Specification.
• Three positions available.

Responsibilities

• Sample adult salmon and steelhead using nets, traps, snorkeling.
• Assist scientists evaluating salmonid abundance and distribution across coastal watersheds.
• Operate high-tech SONAR equipment, snorkelling, and angler surveys for data collection.
• Learn species identification and field methods in salmonid management.
