Job summary

Ocean Associates Inc. (OAI) seeks a Statistics Analyst to provide high-level statistical support for NOAA Fisheries, NWFS, FE in Seattle, WA.

The role focuses on analyzing salmon migration, survival, and ecological responses with Bayesian methods, creating models, and ensuring reproducible research practices. You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, manage datasets, write reports, and contribute to field data collection as needed.

Qualifications

  • PhD in statistics, mathematics, fisheries, ecology or natural sciences.
  • Strong background in statistics and probability; Bayesian methods preferred.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience; advanced degree may substitute years.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; experience publishing.
  • Strong data analysis, numerical modeling and reproducibility practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide statistical analysis to inform management decisions.
  • Analyze spatial and temporal variability in salmon migration and survival.
  • Develop probabilistic models for ecological processes using modern methods.
  • Support study design and analysis.
  • Organize and curate ecological datasets for mark-recapture needs.
  • Document reproducible workflows and analytical protocols.
