Job summary

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) seeks a team member to support daily care and production of fish eggs, fry, fingerling and adult brood stock at a large cold water hatchery in Wisconsin.

Responsibilities include performing maintenance with basic tools, operating distribution tanker units, and compiling monthly biological and water quality data. You will also assist with outreach about the hatchery programs and work in challenging outdoor environments.

Qualifications

  • Specialized experience: assisting with the logistics of feeding and caring for fish; propagation activities (spawning, egg care, sorting, sampling, stocking) at a hatchery; collect and organize recurring fisheries data.

Responsibilities

  • Work individually or as part of a team in all aspects of daily care and production of fish eggs, fry, fingerling and adult brood stock at a large cold water fish production facility.
  • Perform routine maintenance for hatchery upkeep using simple hand tools and power equipment; minor repairs to facilities, equipment, and grounds.
  • Operate fish distribution tanker units up to 66,000 pounds GVWR.
  • Compile and summarize biological and water quality data for monthly sampling procedures.
  • Support outreach activities by providing basic information to the public and partners about the hatchery and its programs.
