Job summary

Commonwealth of Kentucky seeks a Fish and Wildlife Management Foreman to help implement habitat management on public lands in the Kentuckyanortheast region. The role will supervise staff and collaborate with regional teams to advance wildlife habitat projects.

Experience in wildlife conservation is required, with a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences. A master’s degree can substitute for the required experience and occasional statewide travel may be necessary.

Salary: $44,074.08 - $66,110.88 Annually

The Northeastern Region Branch within the Wildlife Division is looking for someone tofulfill a Fish and Wildlife Management Foreman position. With supervision, this position will be responsiblefor implementing habitat management practices on public land in the northeast region.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Document knowledge and experience with various land management and forestmanagement practices and techniques, including implementation of those practices.
  • Provide support and input to public land staff and work cohesively with regional anddepartment staff.
  • Assist with specialized regional or divisional projects as needed.
  • Work in other parts of the state for short stints will be required. Be able to comply with thedepartment’s prescribed fire standards and herbicide application requirements.

Preferred Skills and Abilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • A working knowledge of farm equipment.
  • Supervisory skills.
  • Some computer skills will be required, general knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Word,Excel and Office.
  • Crew leader or supervisory experience.
  • Experience with managing wildlife habitat.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in a biological, natural, agricultural, or aquacultural sciences.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have one year of experience in wildlife and/or fisheries conservation or related field.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree in a biological, natural, agricultural, or aquacultural science will substitute for the required experience.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in wildlife and/or fisheries conservation or related field will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to appointment in this classification. Must be (and remain) eligible to hold a Commercial Driver's License when required by agency. Must maintain any required licensure (s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Working Conditions

Must be able to work outside in temperature extremes for long periods of time and traverse rough terrain. Must be able to swim.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
