Job Description

The Fiscal Technician / Senior Fiscal Technician will be an integral member of the Finance and Operations Team in the Grado Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. This role performs financial and operational activities including purchasing, employee onboarding, labor distribution, travel authorizations and reimbursements, payroll coordination, electronic reconciliations, encumbrance management, funds handling, sponsored fund management, proposal support, NI&S activities, and the implementation of best practices in compliance with university, state, and federal guidelines. This position reports to the Business and Facilities Manager.

Required Qualifications

  1. Proven effectiveness improving customer experience and/or process efficiency using strong problem-solving and analytical skill sets.
  2. Documented organizational skills and attention to detail leading to accurate and timely task management.
  3. Proven ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy in a deadline-driven environment.
  4. In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
  5. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
  6. Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, or related field or equivalent related training and/or experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience performing fiscal duties in a professional setting including AP/AR, travel arrangements and reimbursements, journal entries and reconciliations.
  2. Experience with large enterprise database systems involving financial information.
  3. Experience with Virginia Tech systems such as the Banner, HokieMart, Banner Time Entry System, Chrome River, MicroStrategy, FINTRACs, Labor Redistribution, MyJournals, and CASHNet.
  4. Experience with Virginia Tech Foundation Accounts Payable business processes such as Request for Payment and Fund Transfer Requests.
  5. Knowledge of university academic and financial policies and procedures.
  6. Experience interpreting and applying complex regulations, policies, and organizational processes.
