Position Overview

Working under the direction of the Assistant Controller, the Fiscal Specialist 2 provides fiscal support and accounting work in accounts payable and/or other accounting services to the College in a timely and accurate manner. This position performs complex fiscal support functions including analysis, reconciliation, and interpretation of financial data to ensure compliance with state regulations and institutional policies.

This position will also assist the Finance team in contributing toward efforts to further develop community, diversity, access, success, learning, innovation, and environmental stewardship with the day-to-day campus culture and practices. The Fiscal Specialist 2 works closely with all members of the finance team and assists in a variety of duties including, but not limited to credit card reconciliation, account reconciliation and bank reconciliation including identifying discrepancies, analyzing root causes, and recommending corrective actions.

As the Fiscal Specialist 2, it is expected that the following qualities will be demonstrated daily: a high degree of understanding and empathy for all students, faculty, staff, and visitors, as well as the ability to encourage the inclusion of all voices in decision-making, promoting equity in all areas, and actively working against institutionalized norms of oppression against historically marginalized people.

Employee Type: Full Time Classified, Permanent

Initial Salary: $3,840.00 - $4,320.00 Monthly DOE + 5% King County Premium Pay (KCPP)

Finance Office Operations & Accounts Payable:

  • Analyze financial transactions and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with state regulations, institutional policies, and audit requirements
  • Perform detailed account, bank, and credit card reconciliations; investigate variances and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Monitor expenditure activity and identify irregularities, trends, or discrepancies, and recommend corrective actions as appropriate
  • Review, process, and reconcile purchasing and reimbursement documents to ensure accuracy of liability and expenditure accounts in the general ledger
  • Support financial reporting processes by compiling, reviewing, and validating data for accuracy and completeness
  • Assist in developing, updating, and improving fiscal processes, procedures, and internal controls to enhance efficiency and compliance
  • Provide support in audit responses by analyzing financial data, preparing documentation, and explaining transaction activity to auditors and leadership
  • Recommend and implement improvements to fiscal tracking and reporting processes, including use of PeopleSoft and Excel based tools
  • Other related duties as assigned

Education & Experience

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of fiscal record keeping experience OR one (1) year of accounting courses OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Familiarity in using Microsoft Excel.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal, telephone, email, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and interest in diversity, equity and inclusion and the ability to support a multicultural workplace and educational environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Work experience in a college’s business office.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft within the Washington State System for Community & Technical Colleges.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and determine priorities.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, pivot tables and formulas.

Knowledge in:

  • Using Microsoft Office suite and other productivity software to perform complex word processing, database, spreadsheet and Outlook functions.
  • Updating and uploading information to SharePoint and/or other internet sites.
  • Principles of accounting, reconciliation, and financial analysis
  • State fiscal policies, internal controls, and audit compliance standards

Skill with:

  • Identify process gaps and recommend improvements to fiscal operations and internal controls

Terms of Employment

This is a full-time, permanent Classified position. This position works 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday; may include occasional evening responsibilities. The position is allocated to pay Range 43 under the Higher Education Salary Schedule. Initial base salary placement is between the ranges of $3,840.00 - $4,320.00 per month, with yearly step increases to the maximum salary of $5,137.00 (Step M) per month (not including the 5% King County Premium Pay). This is a represented position.

Cascadia College employees receive a 5% King County Premium Pay in addition to base salary for the 2025-2026 Fiscal Year.

This position has been designated as a bargaining unit position by the Washington Public Employees Association. Following a successful probationary/trial service period, employees attain permanent status.

Physical Work Environment

Semi-Sedentary Work: Involves staying in a stationary position to a significant degree. Jobs are sedentary if moving is required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

The College is currently in hybrid operations, with many assignments completed in an online environment during this time. Full-time employees are expected to be on-campus at least three (3) days per week with the option to work remotely for the remainder of their working days. This position will perform work in a standard office setting, use standard office equipment and physically attend meetings both on and off campus and requires the ability to communicate in person or through appropriate means.

Positions in this class typically require operating a computer, communicating, observing, and repetitive motions.

This position involves exerting between 10-30 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to transport, put, install, remove, or otherwise move objects, with or without reasonable accommodation.
