Job summary

Rhode Island Fast Ferry is hiring a First Mate for the summer season aboard our 110’ high-speed passenger catamarans based in North Kingstown, RI. This non-rotational, seasonal role requires local candidates or willingness to relocate; housing is not provided.

You will assist the Captain in safe operations and lead the onboard crew, with a focus on safety, maintenance, and excellent passenger service in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• USCG Master’s License (100 GRT or greater) required.
• Current First Aid / CPR / AED certification required.
• Radar Observer (Unlimited) certification and practical radar experience preferred.
• Experience operating or working aboard high-speed vessels preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Captain with safe vessel operations and navigation.

The Role

Rhode Island Fast Ferry is seeking First Mates for our summer season (beginning in May) aboard our high-speed passenger catamarans based in North Kingstown, RI. This is a non-rotational, seasonal position—candidates must be based locally or willing to relocate. Housing is not provided.

As First Mate, you will support the Captain in the safe and efficient operation of the vessel while helping lead the onboard crew. This is a hands-on role that combines vessel operations, crew leadership, and maintenance responsibilities in a dynamic, passenger-focused environment.

What We’re Looking For

• USCG Master’s License (100 GRT or greater)
